About Citadel Mid
Citadel Mid is a one-lane MOBA designed to be finished in a single sitting. You pick one of three heroes, face a bot in the middle lane, and do all the things a MOBA player expects: last-hit creeps for gold, deny your own, break two towers, and push creeps into the enemy Citadel before the bot does the same to yours. There is no download, no install and no account. It runs in a browser tab, and a match is short enough to fit between other things.
The systems go deeper than the one-lane format suggests. Emberblade is a strength melee hero who dashes in, sets the lane on fire and stuns everyone around him. Frostweaver is an intelligence ranged hero with a homing Ice Lance, a rooting Frost Nova and a wave-clearing Blizzard. Stormcaller is an agility ranged hero with chain lightning, Blink and a strike that can hit the enemy hero anywhere on the map. There are 34 items — bash, lifesteal, armor shred, frost slows and a hex that turns enemies into sheep — plus jungle camps, river runes, a river boss called the Elder Thornwyrm that grants a second life, fog of war and wards. Bots come in Easy, Normal and Hard, you can play either side, and mirror matches are supported.
Controls follow the familiar MOBA layout: right-click to move and attack, left-click to inspect, A plus click to attack or deny, Q/W/E/R to aim abilities and then click, B to shop, and 1–6 for items. The developer recommends a computer with a mouse and keyboard, which is fair — this is a game about cursor precision as much as strategy. The presentation is hand-painted, with original music and sound effects, which gives it a more authored look than most browser prototypes.
Citadel Mid was built with Claude Code for the code and ChatGPT for the art, according to its itch.io page. What makes it notable is not that AI wrote a MOBA, but that the finished thing has the systems a MOBA needs — creep equilibrium, denies, tower aggro, buyback, items, jungle, runes, wards and three difficulty levels — in a package that loads in a browser. If you have ever wanted to try a MOBA without installing a 30 GB client, this is the most direct shortcut we have seen this week. Start on Easy, learn the last-hit rhythm, then try Hard and see how quickly the bot punishes greed.
